New Delhi :
MCD on Tuesday installed an Aerobin at a housing society in
Rohini as part of efforts to promote waste segregation and composting at source.
The Aerobin was inaugurated by Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi at Printer Apartments Housing Society in Rohini. The system can convert up to 10 kg of wet waste into compost within around 40 days using bio-culture technology, without generating foul odour.
The compost generated can be used for gardening and landscaping purposes, according to the official.
Wider adoption of such decentralised waste-management systems could help reduce the burden on Delhiās landfill sites and strengthen source-level waste segregation.
The installation was carried out alongside an intensive sanitation drive in the Rohini zone, where roads were cleaned using jetting and mechanical sweeping machines.
