NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced a comprehensive house tax waiver scheme, as revealed by senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh during a press conference on Monday.
Under this initiative, residents who pay their 2024-25 house tax will have all previous pending taxes waived off.
The announcement was made jointly by Singh, MCD mayor Mahesh Khinchi, deputy mayor Ravinder Bhardwaj, and Leader of the House Mukesh Goel.
The scheme includes specific benefits for different property sizes. Properties under 100 square yards will receive complete tax exemption, while those between 100 and 500 square yards will get a 50 percent tax reduction.
The initiative extends to commercial properties in rehabilitation areas, which will receive tax exemptions. Additionally, residents of 1,300 housing apartments will now receive a 25 percent tax reduction, a benefit they did not previously enjoy.
"What AAP promised, we have delivered. We have already confirmed 12,000 MCD workers as permanent employees, and we will officially implement this decision in the upcoming MCD House meeting on the 25th," said Mayor Mahesh Khinchi, highlighting the party's commitment to public welfare.
The scheme represents a significant policy change in Delhi's municipal tax structure, affecting various categories of property owners across the city.
