Fire breaks out in paper storage facility, none hurt
New Delhi: A major fire broke out at a paper storage facility in northwest Delhi's Alipur on Saturday. More than 150 firefighters battled the blaze, which had been raging for over seven hours. Police reported that no one was injured in the incident.Chief minister Atishi said she was personally monitoring the situation.The fire department received a call around 4 pm and immediately dispatched fire tenders to the scene. "We found that it was a major blaze, so we called for more fire tenders, and so far, 30 have been deployed," a fire officer said.Another fire officer stated that the presence of combustible materials inside the godown acted as catalysts, allowing the fire to spread quickly.Videos captured the terrifying scene: thick, black smoke billowed from the site, while flames erupted from the godown. Atul Garg, director of Delhi Fire Services (DFS), said the godown had no fire NOC. "The blaze is still going on," he said at 10.30pm.According to police, paper rolls were stored in the godown, and no injuries were reported. "We will investigate the reason behind the blaze," an officer said.Expressing concern over the incident, Atishi posted on X that she had spoken to the district magistrate and that the govt was providing all possible assistance. "Several fire brigade vehicles are present at the spot, and firefighters are trying to control the fire. By God's grace, there is no report of any loss of life so far. I myself am constantly monitoring this incident," she wrote on X.In Feb, eleven people died and four others were injured after a massive fire broke out at a paint factory in Dayalpur Market, located in north Delhi's Alipur.Data shows that in the last two years, there have been 800 fires in Delhi factories. This year, up to May 26, blazes were reported in 194 factories.
