NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old man named Jitendra, who attempted self-immolation near the Parliament on December 25, succumbed to his injuries at RML hospital on Friday, as confirmed by officials.

The incident happened when he poured a petrol-like liquid on himself near the new Parliament building.

Security personnel stationed near the parliament swiftly intervened to extinguish the flames.

Following the incident, he was immediately transported to RML hospital's burn ward for treatment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute in his hometown of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh.

Police reports indicated that his family was involved in two assault cases with another family in their village, which had caused him significant distress.

Hospital officials confirmed that he sustained 95 per cent burn injuries and passed away at 2:23 am on Friday.

The medical authorities stated that burn shock from inhalational burns, resulting from 95 per cent second-degree deep dermal burns, was determined as the cause of death.

A police official confirmed that after the post-mortem examination, Jitendra's remains were released to his family members.
