Escaped bullets, not blade: Man who dodged murder twice stabbed to death in Delhi; 2 accused arrested
NEW DELHI: A 33-year-old man, who escaped two alleged murder attempts, was stabbed to death in north-east Delhi's Shastri Park on the intervening night of Dec 30 and 31.
Wasim, suspected to be a member of the Chhainu gang, was brought to JPC Hospital, which called up the police.
In July last year, a man was shot dead inside a ward in GTB Hospital. This man, Riyazuddin (32), was allegedly mistaken for Wasim by the shooter. A month before that, Wasim survived a firing in the Welcome area. He was shot in the hip and stomach. The shooters were allegedly members of the Hashim Baba gang, who were on the lookout for him.
The labourer, Riyazuddin, was shot dead in ward 24 of GTB Hospital, Shahdara, when he was admitted for treatment for an abdominal infection. According to police, an 18-year-old youth entered the ward and fired multiple rounds, triggering panic on the 4th floor of the hospital.
Riyazuddin's family later said the real target was Wasim, who was earlier admitted to the same ward but was shifted. The assailant was perhaps unaware of Wasim's transfer, and mistook Riyazuddin for Wasim.
Two siblings suspected to be involved in Wasim's murder have been arrested. They were identified as Shakir (26) and Islam(22).
During interrogation, they confessed to committing killing Wasim and disclosed that they had a dispute with him. The knife they had used to stab him has been found, police said.
Wasim lived in the Buland Masjid area of Shastri Park. He was attacked near the loop road behind a DDA park close to his home. A case was registered at Shastri Park police station and forensic teams collected samples. Multiple police teams were also formed to arrest the suspects.
Senior police officers said that investigators had been probing if personal enmity was the motivation behind Wasim's murder.
"Prima facie, the murder appears to be linked to a property dispute, though all angles are being examined," a senior officer said.
