Man wants DNA test to reunite with only child
NEW DELHI: A Jalandhar-based couple has moved a city court for a DNA test as a last recourse to regain custody of their daughter. Anisha’s (name changed) father Jogi-nder Singh was forced to approach the court after Udayan, an NGO refused him her custody. Singh got separated from his daughter in Delhi two years ago.
Anisha’s parents were even asked to prove that their marriage was legal by the court after Udyan levelled allegations that they were not married.

Even guests at the wedding were called in as witnesses.
Udayan reportedly gave Anisha to another couple in Delhi without even waiting for the adoption proceedings to end in the court. While Singh has submitted all the relevant documents in court, the NGO has claimed they took permission from the Juvenile Welfare Board. No supporting documentation has been submitted.
‘‘When I proved my marriage, the NGO now says that Anisha is not mine. That is why I have been forced to request the court for a DNA test,’’ Singh said. Singh is yet to see his daughter.
Anisha’s foster parents have said that his social status does befit a girl child. Singh’s advocate Anju Jain has refuted this claim. ‘‘The law says that if a child is handed over to foster parents, he or she has to be returned if the biological parents are traced,’’ she added. Singh has also been accused of being a criminal.
