Man tries to chop off confectioner’s hands over payment dispute in southwest Delhi

New Delhi: A 32-year-old confectioner and tent service provider was grievously injured after a customer allegedly tried to chop off his hands with a grinder over a payment dispute in southwest Delhi’s Vijay Enclave on Friday. The accused has been arrested, while two of his minor associates have been detained.

Police received a PCR call around 8.30pm and rushed to the spot under the Dabri police station limits, where the injured man, Lokesh Gupta, was found bleeding.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that Gupta had been hired by a local milk supplier, Ajay Pal (53), to provide catering and tent services for his daughter’s wedding last Monday for Rs 2.5 lakh. About Rs 2 lakh was allegedly pending, and Gupta approached Pal on Friday to collect the amount.

During the meeting, the two reportedly got into a heated argument after Pal refused to pay, claiming that the delivery had been delayed. “During the quarrel, Pal and his associates allegedly attempted to cut off both of Gupta’s hands using a grinder,” said DCP (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh.

Gupta was first taken to a nearby medical facility and later referred to AIIMS for further treatment. Police collected evidence from the spot and recorded the victim’s statement. Medical examination confirmed grievous injuries caused by a sharp weapon.

A police officer said one of Gupta’s hands was seriously injured, but he managed to prevent the grinder from cutting through the bone.

An FIR has been registered under Sections 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 127 (wrongful confinement) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Pal has been arrested, and two minors have been detained in connection with the case.
