NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, when the capital was celebrating Rakhi, a 60-year-old woman was allegedly set on fire by her own brother in neighbouring Faridabad. The victim, identified as Maya Devi, is fighting for her life at Safdarjung Hospital where she has been admitted with 85 per cent burns.
According to Faridabad police, Maya Devi is a resident of the Old Faridabad area.

She was asleep in her room when her brother, Raj Kumar (45), who works at an eatery in Faridabad, came to her house ostensibly for Rakhi.
"My mother-in-law was sleeping inside the room when an angry Raj Kumar came looking for his son, Sumit, but could not find him. He then brought a petrol can from outside the house, poured the fuel on Maya Devi and set her on fire. He then fled from the spot,'' said the victim's son-in-law, Keshav Thakur.
The victim's daughter, Rekha, heard her cries and rushed to her rescue. She was joined by neighbours. "We threw balnkets over Maya and extinguished the fire. I then informed the police and rushed her to hospital,'' said Hiralal, a neighbour.
The police said they have registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused and are looking for him. The in-charge of Old Faridabad police station, Ram Chander, told TOI, "Our investigations have revealed that Raj Kumar was unhappy after his wife left him recently. He held Maya responsible for his separation from his wife and wanted to take revenge.''
