Man fatally stabbed in Shahbad Dairy, video shows knife lodged in back

New Delhi: A 32-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by three youths in northwest Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy on Saturday night, police said. A video of the incident surfaced on social media showed the victim lying on the road with a knife lodged in his back as bystanders gathered around him.

Police said information regarding the stabbing was received, following which a team rushed to Mahadev Chowk in Shahbad Dairy and later reached MV Hospital in Pooth Khurd, where the injured man had been admitted. The victim was identified as Narayan Dutt, an e-rickshaw driver and a resident of Prahladpur’s Gupta Colony.

According to the cops, Narayan had suffered multiple injuries and was declared unfit to give a statement. He was later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors declared him.

During the investigation, police scanned CCTV footage from the area and found three boys attacking the victim. A case was initially registered under sections 109 (attempt to murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of BNS at Shahbad Dairy police station. After the victim succumbed to his injuries, section 103 related to murder was added to the FIR.

Police teams were formed to analyse CCTV footage and track down the accused. One of the alleged assailants, identified as 20-year-old Suraj, a resident of a jhuggi cluster in Shahbad Dairy, has been apprehended.
