Man arrested for sexually assaulting boy in Govindpuri
New Delhi: A day after a ruckus erupted in southeast Delhi's Govindpuri over the abduction and alleged rape of a boy, police have arrested the accused. The mother of the five-year-old boy works as a domestic help. She, and many others like her, usually leave their children downstairs while going to work. But on Aug 31, she couldn't find her son after finishing the work. After looking for him for hours, she approached police around 7pm and filed a complaint. On Sept 1, an FIR under Section 137 (kidnapping) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered. While police teams looked for him, the mother also continued her search and finally found her son abandoned in the same building. She took him to the police station around 12.30pm the next day, and the child was taken to a hospital for a medical examination. Later, the boy, accompanied by his family, was sent to a care home.Till Sept 2, the family didn't allege sexual assault, said police. However, when the boy was taken before a child welfare committee where his statement was recorded, he alleged inappropriate touching by a man. Family members also said the boy was drugged using injections, the marks of which, they claimed, were visible on his body. The claim is yet to be substantiated by a medical report. The ruckus erupted when police reached the spot on Tuesday, following a PCR call around 7.20pm by the boy's family about the alleged assault. Police arrested the accused, a 35-year-old male neighbour, based on the statements of the boy's parents. Angry locals, who heard about the alleged assault in the densely populated area, tried to attack him. They later gathered at the gate of Govindpuri police station and started demanding strict action against the accused, with many of them shouting "fansi do, fansi do". Police later added Section 8 (sexual assault) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act to the FIR.The DCP southeast has alleged the involvement of local politicians in instigating the crowd.
