Mahamandaleshwar, three disciples attacked at Maha Kumbh mela; old rivalry suspected

A Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhara and his three disciples were allegedly attacked by unknown assailants in the food area of the Maha Kumbh Mela on Friday. The injured have been admitted to Central Hospital in Sector 2.

Mahamandaleshwar Kalyaninand Giri said, "More than half a dozen boys surrounded our car and attacked me with a sharp weapon. When my disciples protested, they were also assaulted."

Anna Kshetra SHO Shambhu Singh said a formal complaint is awaited. Preliminary investigation points to an old rivalry between two eunuch groups, with a prior attack on a eunuch named Himangi Sakhi already under investigation.

Maha Kumbh Live: Two fire incidents in Mela area

Two fire incidents were reported in the Mela area on Thursday, though no injuries were recorded. The first fire broke out at the police line camp office on Bindu Madhav Marg, Sector 6, where two tents were gutted. Firemen posted at the watchtower quickly doused the flames. A short circuit is suspected to be the cause.

A huge crowd of devotees thronged the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj on Friday to take a holy dip at the sacred Triveni Sangam.
According to the Uttar Pradesh government, more than 491.4 million devotees have dipped in the Triveni Sangam (the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati) since the inception of the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela.
The information department of the UP government said that as of 8:00 PM, nearly 8.54 million people took holy dips today.
Among this congregation, more than 500 thousand Kalpavasis and over 6.42 million pilgrims have taken a dip.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and his wife took a holy dip in Triveni Sangam at the ongoing Mahakumbh.
