Delhi Covid lockdown news: National capital records 28,395 new cases, 277 deaths

Thousands of migrant workers gathered at Anand Vihar ISBT to catch a bus home, hours after chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a week-long lockdown and appealed to them with folded hands not to leave Delhi while sounding a word of assurance -- "Main hoon na" (I am here for you). Police officials said over 5,000 people gathered at Anand Vihar including at ISBT as well as the railway station and the numbers were rising. "I assure you, the government will take full care of you. Main hun na, mujh par bharosa rakho (I am here for you, have faith in me)," Kejriwal said, announcing the lockdown from 10pm tonight to 5am next Monday. Stay with TOI for all the latest updates:

Delhi lockdown: Migrants queue up at bus stands to rush home
After the Delhi government imposed a week long lockdown from Monday night to curb the spike in Covid cases, in a replay of last year's migrants crisis, a large number of people gathered at bus stations here on Tuesday to flee from the city, fearing the shutdown of the public transport may force them to walk hundreds of kilometers. Last year, hundreds of migrant labourers had left the city on foot in the absence of public transport during the lockdown. Hundreds of people including children, women and elderly queued up at Rajiv Chowk, Sector-12, Sector-34, Khandsa and Sector-37 bus stations on Tuesday with their belongings to head home leaving their jobs and employment back in the city.

There are 18,923 beds in Delhi as of now, of which 16,461 beds are occupied & 2,462 beds are vacant. The Covid-19 facility at Radha Soami Satsang Beas will reopen today & the one at Commonwealth Games Village has become operational with 600 beds.

Gurugram: Hospitals stare at oxygen crunch, but administration says Haryana has surplus

Most private hospitals in the city treating Covid patients are facing a shortage of medical oxygen. Supply has been affected because a major supplier in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, failed to deliver the required stocks. The district administration has, however, said Haryana has surplus oxygen and is supplying it to UP and Delhi.

Partly cloudy skies in Delhi on Tuesday morning brought the minimum temperature at 19.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below the seasons' average, MeT Department officials said. The air quality of the city was 'moderate' with an index value of 193 at 9 am, showed real-time data of the Central Pollution Control Board. Relative humidity was 43 per cent at 8.30am, they said. Couple sent to jail for misbehaving with cops, violating Covid norms

A couple who had allegedly misbehaved with policemen in central Delhi’s Daryaganj was sent to jail on Monday after a court dismissed their bail application. The couple has been booked for offences under IPC pertaining to obstructing and attacking policemen apart from lockdown and mask violation offences under the DDMA Act.
