Life in the metro goes back to normal—almost
New Delhi: The Lal Qila metro station on violet line has been closed till Wednesday for security reasons following a blast near the station on Monday.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a post on X, "Due to security reasons, the Lal Qila metro station shall continue to remain closed till Nov 12. All other stations will function as normal."
A DMRC official said the decision to close the station was taken on the advice of Delhi Police. Meanwhile, the Central Industrial Security Force said all installations secured by the force in the National Capital Region, including the Delhi Metro network, have been placed on high alert.
Despite the heightened alert, large crowds were seen at major interchange points.
Many passengers expressed a mix of concern and confidence in the security measures. Meghanshi, 30, a software engineer and regular commuter from Kashmere Gate, said life suddenly feels unpredictable. "There's definitely more fear and suspicion now, but people are still travelling because they trust the security arrangements and the authorities' efforts to ensure safety."
Carrying shopping bags from a popular wedding store in Chandni Chowk, a couple from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, said they had come to Delhi for wedding shopping and felt reassured to see the city returning to near-normalcy a day after the blast. "We condemn the attack but feel safe seeing the security measures in place," they said.
Sanya Dev, 19, a dental student and daily commuter on magenta line, voiced concern about public safety. "What if another attack happens in the future?" she said, reflecting the unease among Delhiites despite efforts to restore calm.
As metro operations continue under heavy security, authorities have urged commuters to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

Security has been intensified at several stations across the city. A visit by TOI to some of the busiest stations — Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate and Hauz Khas—on Tuesday saw usual number of commuters cooperating with security checks, as frisking and baggage screening were stepped up. On-ground DMRC staff also ensured that everyone cooperated with the security personnel, facilitating a safe and peaceful commute.
