NEW DELHI: Lieutenant governor VK Saxena has cleared a proposal to create 37 additional posts for Delhi State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission. The proposal was mooted in June 2020, considering the pendency of cases in the commission.
As on March 1, 2020, the total number of pending cases was 7,760, which comprised of 5,848 complaints, including execution applications, and 1,912 appeals and revision petitions.
The new positions include one deputy registrar, three section officers, six assistant section officers, six senior assistants, 12 junior assistants, three personal secretaries, one stenographer and five multi-task staff. The finance department had agreed to make financial provisions for the posts.
The move is likely to provide a major fillip to transparency and speedy redressal of grievances of common people, something that the LG has been emphasising ever since taking over in May last year, stated the LG's secretariat. On more than one occasion, he had flagged the lack of adequate mechanisms for redressal of grievances of common people and insisted on making sufficient provisions, it added.
The sanctioned strength of the commission is currently five members, including the president. It has three courts, two division benches and one single-member bench.
Ministry of Home Affairs, on January 1, 1997, had delegated powers to Delhi government for creation of posts in both plan and non-plan categories under groups A, B, C and D. Hence, all types of permanent, temporary and supernumerary posts in any department can be created with the concurrence of the finance department and approval of the lieutenant governor.
