NEW DELHI: Lieutenant governor VK Saxena has directed the education department to investigate the delay in completing the verification process of dossiers of teachers who have cleared the examination by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB).

He has ordered the department to prepare a mechanism and develop a systematic process so that recruitment can be completed on time.

The DSSSB is the recruiting agency that conducts recruitment exams in different government departments. Teachers' recruitment in both Delhi government and municipal corporation schools is done by the DSSSB.

Following the clearing of the exams by the candidates, the details of the teachers, called dossiers, are sent to the education department. The dossiers are cross-checked and verified. Only once the candidate clears the verification is the appointment letter given.

The letter to the department was sent by the Department of Vigilance in May. The delay in the processing of dossiers received from DSSSB was placed before the LG.

The LG directed that "it is in the best interest of the government and prospective candidates that the vacancies notified are filled as expeditiously as possible. It is therefore desired that initiatives for the systematic improvement are standardised so that there is clarity in the process among all concerned and such delays never recur in future."

Following this order, which was forwarded by the DOV, the education department, said in the circular, "All the branch in-charge and sub-ordinate staff are hereby directed for strict compliance on the observation by the LG and ensure such delay never occurs in the future while dealing with the dossiers of DSSSB/UPSC. Any laxity in such matters can be viewed seriously."

There are over 10,000 regular vacancies in Delhi government schools. At present, the positions are filled by the guest teachers. There are around 12,000 guest teachers working in the schools.
