Anil Baijal held a meeting on Thursday to review the progress of desilting of drains to ensure that the city is prepared for monsoon. The government agencies have identified 370 waterlogging-prone areas. The
LG has directed PWD and other agencies to ensure that desilting work is completed at the earliest and take up rainwater harvesting work along arterial roads.
Baijal tweeted, “Reviewed progress of desilting. 370 areas prone to waterlogging identified. Field inspections to check preparedness of agencies.” Delhi traffic police has been directed to increase deployment around waterlogging-prone areas to ease traffic movement. He directed officials to intensify field inspections to check preparedness.
He has instructed PWD, DJB and local bodies to explore the possibility putting in place rainwater harvesting system along the roads as a long-term solution to the problem of waterlogging. “Water harvesting along roads to be taken up. Traffic police deployment to increase. Urge people to dispose malba at approved sites,” he said in another tweet.
All agencies have been told to ensure that adequate number of pump sets are installed. “PWD, DJB and local bodies were directed to lay down a proper operating procedure for this so that there are no complaints of dysfunctional pumps or absence of authorised manpower at the time of need,” the statement from LG office read.
