NEW DELHI:
Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal
on Tuesday said that it was the
collective responsibility
of all
citizens
to
preserve
the
true spirit
of the Indian Constitution. While celebrating 70 years of the
Indian Constitution
at his office, Baijal said that people should also follow the fundamental duties of “protecting and preserving unity, integrity and sovereignty of India and environment, culture and spirit of common brotherhood”.
“They contribute to the goal of attaining overall happiness in society and a developed India,” he added.
The programme was also marked by a brief perspective on the fundamental duties by Ranbir Singh, vice-chancellor of National Law University.
Baijal, on the occasion, released the calendars of the activities to be undertaken by different departments to create awareness regarding the Constitution.
Chief Secretary Vijay Dev, Commissioner of Police Amulya Patnaik, vice-chancellors of various universities and senior officers of various departments attended the programme.
The Constitution Day was also celebrated by different government departments and municipal corporations. The education directorate organised several activities wherein children read out the preamble and fundamental duties. Similar activities were held at higher educational institutes.
At Delhi secretariat, all employees took pledge to follow the Constitution while discharging their duties. At Sheikh Sarai RTO office, motor licensing officer Nand Gopal and other employees read out the preamble. At Delhi BJP office, party functionaries paid floral tributes to the portrait of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. The Congress held a dharna at Delhi Gate to protest against “the attempt to violate Constitutional norms by the BJP.”
