Kolkata Doctor Rape Case Supreme Court Hearing Live: Accused persons in the RG Kar Medical College financial scam probe have been sent to judicial custody till September 23 by the special CBI court. Ghosh, along with Biplab Singha, Suman Hazra, and Afsar Ali, are also co-accused in the financial irregularities case.

A week after staging a demonstration outside the Kolkata Police headquarters at Lalbazar, hundreds of junior doctors marched towards Swasthya Bhawan on Tuesday demanding justice for the rape-murder victim at RG Kar Hospital and resignation of Kolkata CP and several health officials over the incident.

The protesters set a deadline of 5 pm for the state government to accept their charter of five demands which includes the resignation of the Kolkata Police Commissioner, state Health Secretary, Director of Health Education (DHE), and Director of Health Services (DHS), failing which they said they would stage a sit-in in front of Swasthya Bhawan.

Kolkata Doctor Rape Case Updates Live: ‘People angry at RG Kar rape-murder, govt inaction’, says Trinamool MP Jawhar Sircar
Trinamool MP Jawhar Sircar on Sunday quit politics and from the Rajya Sabha in protest against Bengal govt’s handling of the RG Kar rape-murder. In a two-page letter to party chief and CM Mamata Banerjee, he said he had been “suffering patiently for a month”, urging her to “do something to save the state.”
Sircar differed with his party’s “confrontational stand” (TMC had labelled the protests “political”) and questioned why Banerjee had not spoken to the agitating junior doctors directly. He also dubbed the state’s steps “as too little and quite late.” Banerjee called up Sircar — who joined politics in Aug 2021 to be elected Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP — in an effort to persuade him to take back his resignation, but Sircar refused, sources said.
Sircar will leave for Delhi on Wednesday (Sept 11) and submit his resignation to vicepresident Jagdeep Dhankhar, the RS chairman, the following day.

Making an impassioned appeal to the protesting doctors across the country, the apex court had also asked them to get back to work, saying "justice and medicine" cannot be stopped. Moreover, it said it was issuing all necessary directions to ensure their safety.

On August 20, the apex court had termed the rape and murder of the doctor as "horrific" and issued a slew of directions including setting up of a 10-member National Task Force to formulate a protocol for ensuring the safety and security of doctors and other health care professionals.

The murder and rape of the junior doctor inside a seminar hall of the state-run hospital sparked nationwide protests.

The medic's body with severe injury marks was found inside the seminar hall of the hospital's chest department on August 9. A civic volunteer was arrested by the Kolkata Police in connection with the case the following day.

On August 13, the Calcutta High Court transferred the probe from Kolkata Police to the CBI, which started its investigation on August 14.
