new delhi: kishan kumar, brother of slain music baron gulshan kumar, was sent to tihar jail late on tuesday evening and lodged in a separate cell at jail number 2 in view of a ``security threat,'' even as the delhi police filed an application in a city court on wednesday for his custody. director-general (prisons) ajay agarwal said the decision to put kumar in a separate cell was taken keeping in mind the fact his brother gulshan kumar was gunned down a couple of years ago.
``even outside the jail kishan kumar had been provided security by the police,'' said agarwal. he said apart from the security no special treatment was being accorded to him. ``he was also examined by a team of jail doctors before his entry,'' said agarwal. meanwhile, the crime branch moved an application in a city court seeking a production warrant for kumar. senior officers said they have been trying to interrogate kumar ever since the match-fixing scandal became public, but their attempts were thwarted after kumar got himself admitted to the kailash hospital on april 7. on wednesday alleged bookie rajesh kalra was also sent to tihar jail after doctors at the ram manohar lohia hospital said he was keeping good health. both kumar and kalra are in judicial custody for their alleged involvement in the match-fixing case involving disgraced former south african captain hansie cronje. crime branch sources said on wednesday, following the application filed by them seeking the custody of kishan kumar, metropolitan magistrate k s mohi issued production warrants and asked the tihar jail superintendent to produce kumar in the court on thursday. kumar had first been admitted to the kailash hospital at noida on april 7 from where he was shifted to the apollo hospital on april 16. a court then directed he be shifted to the all india institute of medical sciences in order to get him examined by a panel of doctors. the doctors said kumar was in good health. kalra was also admitted to the ram manohar lohia hospital on monday after he, too, complained of chest pain. the panel of doctors examined him and filed his health report in the court on wednesday saying that he did not require hospitalisation. additional chief metropolitan magistrate sangita dhingra sehgal sent kalra to judicial custody till april 29. meanwhile, police sources said kalra moved two bail applications in separate courts. the police said they would oppose the bail applications, which would come up for hearing on saturday.
