NEW DELHI: The boy who murdered a teacher of Swami Shraddhanand College has been declared "passed" by Delhi University.
In the college last Friday, Ashok Malik, a student of B.Sc (General) Group A, had pumped four bullets into the botany Reader who was on duty for the academic council election. Eyewitnesses said the boy had accused the teacher of spoiling his career.
Singh had caught the boy cheating.
But in what could be a twist in the tale, the boy was declared passed by the university on December 13, following a re-valuation of his results. A letter was dispatched by the examination department on December 15. The boy had applied for re-valuation in August, when the results were declared.
DU controller of exams B S Garg said the re-valuation brought his total marks (617) within the moderation range and he was passed in the third division.
The question remains whether Malik received intimation by December 20, when he allegedly killed the teacher. If yes, then this adds a new dimension to the case.
Meanwhile, DU teachers have accused the university of an apathetic attitude towards Singh’s family.
