Karnataka Congress urges CM Siddaramaiah for evening leave to muslim govt employees during Ramzan

NEW DELHI: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has urged chief minister Siddaramaiah to grant a two-hour evening leave for Muslim government employees during Ramzan, allowing them to leave work after 4pm, similar to a provision in Telangana.
KPCC Vice President ARM Hussain has formally submitted a petition to the CM’s office, emphasizing that party leaders will soon meet Siddaramaiah to press for this demand.
In their letter, KPCC Vice Presidents Syed Ahmad and ARM Hussain have appealed through CM’s political secretary and MLC Nazir Ahmad, requesting the Karnataka government to implement this provision for Muslim employees in government offices.
With Ramzan approaching, the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments have already issued orders permitting Muslim government employees to leave after 4pm to break their fast (Iftar) at home.
The Telangana government has granted this relaxation to all government employees, teachers, contract staff, outsourcing workers, public sector employees, and those in boards and corporations, except in cases where their presence is required due to urgent duties.
The Andhra Pradesh government, under chief minister Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP), has also announced an early leave provision for Muslim employees during Ramzan.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly opposed the Telangana government's order, calling it an appeasement move aimed at the Muslim community.
