NEW DELHI: Barely 24 hours after the Tehelka sting on some of the witnesses in the Jessica Lall murder case was aired, Delhi Police said on Wednesday that it will examine the videotapes which showed a relative of one of the witnesses alleging that money had been paid to change testmonies. Witness Karan Rajput's nephew Jitender Raj, friend Surinder and landlord Rajbir Singh are shown in the tapes saying that Karan was paid Rs 25 lakh by the Sharmas, the family of main accused Manu Sharma, to change his statement in court.
While Rajput had admitted being present at Tamarind Court when the incident took place, he later said in court that he was in Punjab on April 29, 1999, when Jessica was murdered. "The process of examining the tapes in question has already begun,"said special commissioner (intelligence) U K Katna, who also heads the special investigating team that is conducting a fresh probe into the case. Senior police officers did not rule out the possibility that the tapes might aid the SIT.
