NEW DELHI: A police officer investigating the Jessica Lall murder case has confirmed that the black Tata Safari jeep produced before the court was the same as the one recovered from Noida after the murder in Mehrauli.
Jessica Lall was allegedly shot dead by Mannu Sharma, son of former minister Vinod Sharma, at the Qutub Colonnade on the intervening night of April 29 and 30, 1999.
Inspector Surinder Kumar Sharma, who is now the station house officer of Malviya Nagar, told the court that the car was recovered from Sector 24 in Noida on May 3 1999 and its registration number was CH-01-W-6535.
He had seen the same car parked outside Qutub Colonnade when he reached the spot at about 2.45 am.
He said his colleague, Raman Lamba, who was sent to Chandigarh in search of Mannu Sharma and the Tata Safari, had told him on the night between May 4 and May 5 that Mannu Sharma used to stay with his "very special" friends, Vikas Yadav and Amardeep Singh alias Tony Gill.
Sharma said he came to know from Lamba that the cellphone of Amardeeep Singh Gill had been used by the accused.
