Interestingly, Chowdhary not only informed Umaruddin's uncle about the incident, but also claimed to have seen the killers escape. He also informed the police and raised an alarm about the law and situation in the area.
Police said Gulshan and Raza were the prime suspects as the victim was last seen going grocery shopping with them after returning from work on Friday. The duo told police Umaruddin left them midway and gone to someone's house. A team led by ACP Anil Kumar was formed and Chowdhary was zoomed in on, police said.
During interrogation, Chowdhary admitted to stabbing Umaruddin. Police said he often bullied Umaruddin and forced him to pay for for his snacks. On Friday, Umaruddin refused to give him money saying he would need it to shop for his engagement scheduled next week. Angered by this, Chowdhary stabbed Umaruddin multiple times. He fled after Umaruddin collapsed.
He also informed the police presuming that they would not be able to track him down and instead blame the two friends for the murder. A case of murder was registered and Chowdhary was arrested thereafter.
