Indulge in Dilli’s monsoon delights
When it rains in Delhi, the city doesn’t just get drenched, it gets hungry. The skies darken, the traffic slows down, and stomachs begin to growl for comfort food that crackles, steams, and warms from the inside. In this city of extremes, the monsoon doesn’t bring restraint – it brings cravings.
And what would be a better place to satiate all of these cravings if not for Purani Delhi? From satrangi gol gappe, palak patta chaat, dahi-filled chaats to mouth-watering jalebi and rabri, Chandni Chowk is Delhi’s one stop for all street food cravings.
‘Delhi finds its rhythm during the rains’
“Somewhere between the scent of wet earth and the sizzle of a tawa, Delhi finds its rhythm during the rains. A trail of monsoon favourites in the city include eating assorted pakodas, from regular ones to karela and lotus stem fritters at Khandani Pakode Wala in Narouji Nagar. If you are in North Delhi, try Chaina Ram Sindhi Halwai’s ghewar in Fatehpuri, chaat in Kamla Nagar’s Vaishnav Chaat Bhandar and Sudama Chai’s piping hot adrak elaichi chai in the North Campus,” suggest food walk hosts Rohan Monga and Abhishek Bhasin from Namastey Culture.
Anthropologist and food walk host Mohammad Anas from Unzip Delhi, says, “Monsoon comes with sawan, and majorly, not a lot of people eat non-vegetarian food. We try to keep one walk just for the vegetarians. We call it a special chaat and street walk experience where we delve into street food like mango ki chaat, kanji vada, and also the pachrangi golgappa, where we have five different golgappas in one single plate, all with different packed flavours.”
