In major police rejig, Anand Mohan appointed DG prisons
New Delhi: In a sweeping administrative overhaul aimed at sharpening the capital's security apparatus and modernisation efforts, Delhi Police saw a major reshuffle on Tuesday, with a total of 70 officers transferred.Key announcements included the appointment of Anand Mohan, a seasoned 1994-batch IPS officer, as the new DG (prisons). Mohan will oversee the affairs of Tihar, Rohini and Mandoli complexes, which require a delicate balance between prison reform and containment of organised gang activity.
The realignment of the joint commissioners highlights a clear tilt towards technological integration and focused regional monitoring. Sanjay Kumar Jain has been posted as the officer on special duty (OSD) to police commissioner Satish Golcha and will be based in the CP's secretariat. He will also have additional charge of joint CP (tech and project implementation), a post that has become the nerve centre for the department's push towards digital policing and AI-driven surveillance. Sumit Jha will be the DCP (CP's Secretariat-Crime).Meanwhile, the strategic Southern and Eastern ranges will see Vijay Kumar and Ajit Singla taking charge, respectively. A senior cop said Kumar's previous experience as DCP in South district will help police the area better. Dheeraj Kumar will step into the high-stakes crime branch as joint CP, a role pivotal for coordinating inter-state investigations and organised crime.Supporting this shift is a new cadre of additional commissioners. The emphasis on cyber-security is evident with Monika Bhardwaj leading the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) and Nidhin Valsan handling technology. These roles are no longer peripheral; they are the frontline against the rising tide of digital fraud. Ravi Kumar Singh has been elevated to additional CP in the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), signalling a focus on complex financial litigation, while Abhishek Dhania joins the crime unit as additional CP and Bhisham Singh takes over the essential provision and logistics wing. The ‘District DCP' roster — often called the backbone of the home ministry in the capital — has been entirely refreshed. Sachin Sharma takes the reins of New Delhi district, a zone that includes the high-security Lutyens' belt. Anant Mittal (South) and Akanksha Yadav (Northwest) will manage districts known for their complex mix of affluent neighbourhoods and dense urban pockets, requiring a nuanced approach to community policing. Other key district appointments include Rajiv Kumar (East), Kushal Pal Singh (Dwarka), Rohit Rajbir Singh (Central), RP Meena (Shahdara), Shashank Jaiswal (Rohini) and Vikram Singh (Outer). The city's specialised strike forces will also see fresh leadership. The special cell/anti-terror squad, which serves as Delhi's primary shield against terrorism and organised syndicates, will be fortified by Praveen Tripathi and Narra Chaitanya, who will hold the post of DCP in the ATS being constituted. Their appointments are significant as the capital continues to face evolving asymmetric threats.Tripathi is a seasoned officer with a seven-year-long stint in an intelligence agency. He also served as senior superintendent of police in Puducherry, where he held the charge of crime and intelligence, besides wings like traffic. Chaitanya, who is known to have an eye for investigation, has served as additional DCP in Outer district.Bharat Reddy Bommareddy has been moved to oversee Railways while DCP Anyesh Roy has been posted in the IFSO unit. Joint CP Sanjay Tyagi and additional CP Vijyanta Arya have been posted in traffic and will face the challenge of streamlining Delhi's vehicular movement. Ankit Chauhan has been appointed as DCP in the special branch, with the responsibility of strengthening the city's intelligence network.
