A police official said that the incident happened at the intersection of Narela-Lampur Road. Kala, a resident of Kheda village near Rohini, was travelling in his white Hyundai Creta SUV bearing registration number DL 8CAY 0007 with his driver. As they reached near Narela market, the SUV was stopped by four men, all wielding guns. The gang then asked the driver to come out, and fired at least 25 rounds at the car with Kala still sitting inside. After committing the

crime

, they fled towards Lampur village in a white Maruti Swift Dzire car that was parked nearby.

Kala’s driver and the locals pulled him out of the car and took him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. He was hit by at least 20 bullets, the preliminary medical report indicated. The body has been preserved in a mortuary, and it will be handed over to the family members following an autopsy on Monday.

Confirming the developments, DCP (outer-north) Gaurav Sharma said that an FIR has been registered at Narela police station, and multiple angles, including a recent rivalry with a local group, are being probed.

Cops suspect that the murder was planned and the shooters had recced the area as well. The men were aware about Kala’s movements, and they were waiting for the car.

The CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to ascertain the identities of the assailants. It is suspected that the car used by the killers to escape had a Delhi registration number plate.

Kala was last arrested for allegedly threatening a woman to take back a molestation case. Later, she had allegedly committed suicide. Apart from this, Kala was involved in 13 other cases, including that of attempt to murder. He had earlier worked for jailed gangster Neeraj Bawania and gangster Sanjay Bori as well.

The family members of the deceased told cops that Kala was working as a realtor in the area. A team of forensic experts visited the spot and collected the empty bullet shells and other evidence. Sources said that two rounds of 7.65mm bullet and nine rounds of 9mm bullet were recovered. These have been sent for further examination to get fingerprints and other information that could lead to the shooters. The investigating teams are also scanning the deceased’s mobile phone to get any clue. His driver, who was spared by the shooters, is being questioned too. Meanwhile, a list of suspects is being prepared, and local informers have been asked to generate information related to the crime.
