, is abuzz with spectacular theatre performances. Among the 91 productions, the three-week long fest has 10 foreign productions and 12 folk performances, among others. One such production was 'Conference Of The Birds', directed by

Wendy Helen

. It is inspired by the epic poem of Farid-ud-Din Attar (a twelfth century Persian Sufi poet). The

play

depicted the tale of a group of birds that sets off in the search of

Simurgh

, a mythical bird in Iranian mythology. Performed by Anikaya group from the USA, this 80-minute evening-length movement theatre work, had no dialogues and was purely based on choreography and body movements.

Another play that wooed the audience was Ila Arun's Hindi adaptation of

Henrik Ibsen

's play titled 'Peechha Karti Parchayyaiyan'. In the play directed by

KK Raina

and adapted by Ila, the latter played the role of a former queen and widow, Yashodhara Baisaheb. This is Ila's third adaptation of an Ibsen play, who in the past has staged 'The Lady From The Sea' and 'Peer Gynt'.
