Delhi: IIMC to rename main campus road after AB Vajpayee

NEW DELHI:

Indian Institute of Mass Communication

will rename the main road inside its campus after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The executive council of IIMC, which met on Wednesday, also decided to institute an annual lecture in Vajpayee’s memory, likely to be held around his birth anniversary.

Deemed to be University

’ status, the IIMC EC met to iron out the institute’s requirements for adequate faculty. Secretary, ministry of information and broadcasting,

Amit Khare

, who chaired the meeting said IIMC would need to create an entire range of posts that UGC mandates for institutions to be granted

deemed university status

. He also directed IIMC to move a proposal to the I&B ministry regarding the filling up of vacancies in the

non-teaching staff category

as well.

The EC meeting on Wednesday also approved new faculty positions for the IIMC Campuses at Dhenkanal, Aizawl, Amravati, Jammu and Kottayam. Khare said IIMC must look at international partnership including working relationships in ASEAN countries and nations in the Central Asian region. A official communique from the ministry said Khare said that IIMC “develop a strategy for International relations for the Institute”.
