Metropolitan magistrate Sumit Anand rejected Delhi Police's plea of Pandey's custody for two more days, following the completion of his one-day custodial interrogation, which was granted on Thursday.

Delhi Police informed the court that it wanted more time to interrogate Pandey to determine if there were any financial transactions that had taken place between him and the three women who accompanied him to the hotel on the night of the incident. Cops also sought to ascertain the people Pandey met during the period he was absconding as they might have helped him.

Pandey's counsel S P N Tripathy submitted that the incident took place in the spur of the moment and his client was entitled to keep a weapon for his safety and those around him. It was argued that his client had only brought the weapon from the car as he felt threatened, besides he had to think about the safety of the women accompanying him and that he had enough self-control not to use the weapon.

While surrendering before the court on Thursday, Pandey, through his lawyer, said had been wrongly framed in the FIR and was subjected to a media trial. "The applicant has been wrongly framed in the present FIR without any fault and has been subjected to media trial," Ashish said in his surrender application.
