NEW DELHI: The house of the younger brother of a former chief minister of Delhi was burgled in Mianwali area of West Delhi on Monday afternoon. The victim, identified as Azad Singh, is the younger brother of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma and is a BJP councillor from ward number 30 Mundhka village in Pashchim Vihar, west Delhi. Reportedly, a total of Rs 15 lakh worth of cash and valuables were stolen.
According to police, there was no one at home at the time of the incident. Singh was away to Town Hall in Chandni Chowk for some official work while his wife had gone to the school where she teaches. She told police that she had locked the door before leaving and when she returned, at around 12.45 pm, she saw the lock on the main gate was broken.
"When she entered the house, she found that the entire house was ransacked," said a police official. "The police received the call at 1 pm, when Singh's wife called up the control room, and immediately started investigations. The entire house was ransacked. The fact that the incident occurred during the day and that burglars knew when there would be no one at home indicates the involvement of a known person," said a police official. Singh was in a meeting when he received word about the burglary and immediately rushed home. A case of burglary has been registered and further investigations in the matter are on.
