In a statement following Gupta’s oath-taking ceremony, Maliwal expressed her hopes that the new CM would live up to the high expectations placed upon her by the people of Delhi.

Maliwal, known for her outspoken criticism of former CM and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, made her remarks with a note of caution, emphasising that the residents of Delhi have placed great trust in Gupta.

She remarked, “My greetings to Delhi CM Rekha Gupta. The people of Delhi have chosen her with great expectations. I hope she meets those expectations...”

Rekha Gupta, a debutant MLA from the BMP, was sworn in as the chief minister of Delhi on Thursday, in a grand ceremony that signaled the party's return to power in the city after more than 26 years.

The oath-taking event, held at the iconic Ramlila Ground, was a show of strength for the BJP, with a host of prominent leaders in attendance, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda, and defence minister Rajnath Singh. Chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from various states in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) were also present to mark the occasion.

Gupta, the MLA from Shalimar Bagh, becomes Delhi’s fourth woman chief minister. At 50, she is not only the first woman to hold the top post in Delhi since Sheila Dikshit, but also the only female CM in the current NDA team.

In addition to Gupta, six other BJP leaders were sworn in as ministers: Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh.

Gupta’s rise to power is seen as a testament to her long-standing commitment to the city. Having served in various organizational roles and as a councillor, she has a deep understanding of Delhi's challenges and is expected to hit the ground running with a hands-on approach.

The BJP’s election manifesto outlined a series of promises, and Gupta is now tasked with fulfilling those commitments. She becomes the fourth woman to lead Delhi, following the leadership of Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Aatishi from the BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party, respectively.
