Traffic affected as heavy rains lash central and south Delhi

NEW DELHI: Heavy

rains

lashed parts of central and south Delhi on Friday afternoon causing traffic congestion in some areas.


According to the traffic police, waterlogging was reported on a number of stretches including the Savitri flyover, Ashram towards Badarpur, outer ring road (ORR) towards Munirka, GK, RTR towards Munirka, Mayapuri, Sardar Patel Marg and near the airport towards Shani Mandir with traffic snarls also occurring in these areas.



Traffic was also affected at Pul Prahlad Pur Railway underpass, MB Road Kaya Maya Lal Kuan and Mahatma Gandhi Marg Ring Road from Ashram towards Dhaula Kuan near Andrews Ganj due to waterlogging.

Rains also led to waterlogging in other parts of the capital, including Sarita Vihar underpass from Mehrauli-Badarpur Road towards Mehrauli, and railway underpass from Mehrauli-Badarpur Road towards Mehrauli.



The Meteorological Department has forecast further rains through the day and a relative humidity at 75 per cent.

The maximum temperature is expected to reach 37 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature would be 28 degrees Celsius, the Met Department said.







Heavy rains were recorded in Lutyens Delhi, Sarita Vihar, Lajpat Nagar and Saket causing waterlogging and traffic congestion in some areas.




On Thursday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 36.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average, and minimum temperature settled at 28.3 degrees Celsius, one notch above the season's average.
