NEW DELHI: A 23-year-old gym owner was shot at by another man in Saraswati Vihar area of north west Delhi on Monday evening. The victim identified as Badal Bhardwaj (23) was reportedly in a critical condition.
According to the police, Badal was present inside his gym at Ranibagh area of Saraswati Vihar when someone he knew called him outside. Police said that as soon as Badal stepped outside, the man fired three bullet at him and fled from the spot on a motorcycle.
As Badal lay on the road, some members of the gym and his relatives rushed out and took him to a nearby hospital.
The police were also called and Badal was then admitted at Maharaja Agrasen Hospital.
Said DCP (north west) N S Bundela: "We have registered a case and are investigating the matter. The accused has also been identified. Prima facie, the incident appears to be a fallout of personal enmity but we are looking at other angles as well. The condition of the victim is critical."
Doctors at the hospital said Badal had been operated upon to remove the bullets from his body. "There were three bullets fired. We do not know how many hit Badal. We are providing all medical facilities to him to ensure his safety," said a doctor.
Police said Badal and the accused were friends earlier but had recently fallen apart over some differences. A team had been sent to apprehend the accused whose name was provided by Badal's family members. "We are not divulging his name as we want to be sure that he had fired the shots," said a cop. Meanwhile, a case under section 307 (attempt to murder) had been registered at Saraswati Vihar police station.
Police said the victim's father Ashok Bharadwaj was a property dealer in the area and they are probing whether any financial dispute could have led to the incident.
