NEW DELHI: Amid high drama, a woman tried to jump off the terrace of a popular coffeehouse in Connaught Place on Tuesday evening. Two brothers who were present at the café managed to pull the girl off the terrace.
The incident was reported around 8pm from Mohan Singh Place building in CP. The woman was depressed due to the sudden demise of her father, police said.
Witnesses said she kept screaming: “I just want to go to my father, I just want to go to him”.
The woman sat on the terrace wall for more than an hour and threatened to jump whenever someone tried to approach her, said one of the brothers who did not wish to be named. She was hysterical and refused to climb down, even as the police tried to calm her down.
“It was chaotic as people panicked seeing her and began leaving the café. People from the nearby areas gathered to witness the drama even as a cop and some people tried to negotiate with her,” said Pallavi, a witness.
The brothers noticed that the woman was inching nearer to the edge. At one point she lost balance and leant back slightly when the brothers rushed in and pulled her to safety. She was taken to the Cannaught Place police station and handed over to her family after counselling.
