Ghaziabad travel agent gunned down
NOIDA: A hunt is on to arrest six policemen who have been found by the state CID to have murdered a 20-year-old in their custody, in the Sector 20 police station, on September 2, 2006.
The policemen three sub-inspectors and three head constables then all posted at the Sector 20 police station, had put on record that Somvir, alias Sonu, had been found hanging from the toilet grill in the lockup around 4am.

However, the accused faced the heat after this paper published the fact that Sonu had been taken to Kailash Hospital at 6.05am, according to the hospital records.
"It was this," said a CID source, "that helped nail the accused. Sonu's father, Dalbir Singh, a Khurja farmer, had then filed a report of murder against the policemen and an informer who allegedly led the police to Sonu's home to have him wrongly arrested in a case of robbery in Sector 41, days earlier. But, nothing was recovered from Sonu," he said.
A CID team, led by Inspector CP Singh of the Meerut branch of the CBI, had on Wednesday arrived in Noida to conduct raids. But there have been no arrests so far.
Sonu's post mortem report had then revealed that he underwent some brutal torture just before his death. The informer, Raj Kumar, had been arrested two months earlier. The policemen had meanwhile remained on duty, because the state government had not sanctioned their prosecution. The sanction only came recently, after Sonu's father moved the Allahabad High Court.
The sub-inspectors accused of the murder in custody are Vinod Pande, Hind Vir Singh and Mahesh Mishra. The head constables are Pradip, Harpal and Pushpendra. It is understood that all the accused, currently posted in separate districts have now been suspended, and are "absconding," according to CBI officials.
