Free CT scan at AIIMS to check lung cancer

New Delhi: The department of pulmonary critical care and sleep medicine, AIIMS, is conducting a pilot study to explore the possibilities of detecting lung cancer at early stages among smokers. As part of the study, individuals aged 50 and above who are heavy smokers will be offered a free low-dose CT scan of the chest.
Lung cancer remains a significant concern, with nearly 1 lakh cases reported in India last year and a median survival of only around 8.8 months for cases diagnosed in late stages.
According to doctors, most patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage, leading to poor outcomes. Screening with low-dose computed tomography (low-dose CT scan) among chain smokers may be a modality that helps in early detection of lung cancer.
Interested individuals can contact the department for more details from Monday to Saturday between 9 am and 5 pm.tnn
