New Delhi: Seven years on, the Rampura railway underbridge, which was supposed to have been built before the 2010 Commonwealth

Games

, is only 82% complete. North Corporation, however, claims that it will become fully functional by April.
Parmar Construction Company was awarded the tender in 2009 and given a deadline of one year. "The

bridge

had to be completed by 18 October, 2010. Due to the delay in this project, residents of Rampura village, Keshavpuram and Tri Nagar are being inconvenienced," said Goel.
In a standing committee meeting on Wednesday, North Corporation officials said the delay was because of the traffic police's refusal to give permission to close the Rampura road till 2011. Apart from that, there was a stay on the demolition of kiosks in the area. DJB, TPDDL, MTNL, BSES's services in the area also posed a roadblock. Officials also blamed the government for not releasing funds for over a year for the project.
"There have been a lot of deaths in the area as there is no bridge. The cost of project was Rs 7.89 crore and Rs 5.47 crore have been spent till now," said a senior corporation official.
