The deal was finalised on February 1 for Rs 15,000 cash and eight instalments of Rs 2,200 to the financier. However, Shahnawaz could arrange only Rs 15,000. This led to a scuffle and later, the five accused shot him near Jamia Nagar. The police have recovered the weapon of offence from the accused.
Their interrogation revealed that Shahnawaz was in love with Rukaya, Israr's younger sister. But even though Rukaya was not interested in him, he started harassing her even after her marriage. Israr wanted to teach Shahnawaz a lesson and was looking for an opportunity, said the police.
