NEW DELHI: The first day of
DU's academic session wasn't as dramatic as some students had expected. But the freshers who were there to enjoy it quickly made peace with it, as many of their school friends are still struggling to make it to the seventh cut-off list! Some blamed it on the rain and some on the vacant seats because of the high cut-offs, but seniors maintained that this first day was a lot more tense and a lot less chilled out than most first days at DU.
Even so, the fresh batch of students managed to have some fun.
Our first day was brighter Palak, a third-year Hindu student, said, "Our seniors used to tell us that when our batch had come, the campus was so crowded that it felt like the freshers had taken over the campus. But this time, the handful of freshers I've seen look worried, with their parents waiting outside." Divya Gupta, a second-year Miranda student, said, "Our first day was much more relaxed and brighter than this. Maybe because some of them are still applying to the university, this first day is kinda dull."
Still can't believe I got through DU Syeda Bariba, a Miranda fresher, said, "There were so many people handing out pamphlets and trying to talk to the freshers that it took me almost half an hour to reach college from the Metro station. But all of that was like a blur to me. I am just very excited and nervous to finally be here."
Skipped orientation to explore KNags Anjana, a Ramjas fresher, said, "A lot of (student) politicians just surrounded me and started giving flyers. When I reached college, the orientation hall was overflowing and classes weren't going to start for a while. I called my friends in Hindu and Gargi, and their situation was similar. So, we all decided to go and get a get a feel of Kamla Nagar instead."
Still striving to be a DU student Pooja, a fresher with a tika on her forehead and a worried look on her face, said, "I got through Miranda House but the admission got cancelled last minute because there had been a miscalculation. Now, I am rushing to KMC because I have got through in the sixth cut-off."
Expected more interaction with seniors Naira, a DRC fresher, said, "I have just been sitting here with people I know from school. We had gone towards Hansraj, but most of the seniors just smile and keep walking. None of them have initiated a conversation. And the other freshers too are playing it safe. Whoever I saw wearing cool clothes turned out to be seniors."
