NEW DELHI: After a bottle of alcohol was recovered from his bag and he was asked to call his father to school, a 17-year-old student of Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave, allegedly jumped from the third floor of the building around 12.45pm on Tuesday. The Class XI arts student was rushed to Dharamshila Hospital and is stated to be in a critical condition.

Police have not filed an FIR and will wait till the boy is fit for statement.
The boy, a resident of Mayur Vihar Phase III, had earlier undergone an operation at the same hospital. Medical superintendent Raja Dutta told Times City that the boy was brought in an unconscious state. "He was bleeding profusely and blood clots were detected in a scan. We have operated on him but his condition is serious. He is in the ICU and we are monitoring his condition every minute," said Dutta.
Police said the father of the boy, who is the only child, has business interests in Gurgaon and other parts of Haryana. According to additional commissioner (east) K C Dwivedi, off late the boy had been having some disciplinary problems at school. "He had allegedly tampered with the power connections in the school on Monday.
On Tuesday, when his teacher checked his bag, a bottle of alcohol was recovered. He was reportedly called by the principal who told him to ask his father to report to the school on Wednesday," said Dwivedi.
The cops said this decision of the school authorities upset the child. While he initially tried to jump off the first-floor, two of his friends — a boy and a girl — managed to stop him. "But the boy did not relent. He ran to the third floor and jumped off," said Dwivedi.
The cops, however, said the medico-legal case report did not find any trace of alcohol in his body.
When contacted, the school authorities confirmed the chain of events but refused to come on record. The boy's distraught parents too refused to comment. Many other shocked parents visited the hospital after getting the news.

The New Ashok Nagar police said they are looking into the incident. "We are recording statements of the teachers and parents. We will wait for the boy to gain consciousness. If required, we may visit the school to record statements of students. So far, no FIR has been lodged," said an investigating officer.
Police said that a case under section 337 has been registered against unknown persons.
