Fate took away chance of cuddling her grandchild
65-year-old Moorti Devi.
New Delhi: Her son wanted Moorti Devi to be the first one to hold his newborn, but fate had other plans in store. The 65-year-old couldn’t even see her grandchild, leave aside cuddle him closely. She was crushed to death by a truck that toppled on the car she was travelling in.
Moorti’s son, Manish, had become a father on Wednesday evening. The sexagenarian set out towards the hospital in a new Honda Amaze driven by her granddaughter, Tripti Garg (19), who was supposed to go to her engineering college in Gurgaon after meeting the newest member of the family.

Tripti is also battling for life at a private hospital. The joint family lives in Sooraj Nagar of Azadpur.
Tripti’s friend, Shubham Mitra, said that he had offered to take them to the hospital, but as she had recently learnt driving, she was insistent on taking over the wheels. “Tripti had learnt driving from a training school. She would often go out with her friends, but had never driven long distance,” said her uncle, Vikas Garg.
The 19-year-old’s younger cousin, Kushagr, was inconsolable. “Didi will come back home. She had promised to take me for a ride when she returned from college. We had planned to go to the new amusement park near our place on this weekend,” said his younger brother, Shaurya. Wiping each other’s tears, they refused to go inside the house till their grandmother and cousin returned home.
“Barely half an hour after they left home, we got a call from the police informing us about the incident. We came to know the severity of the condition after we reached the hospital,” said Jai Prakash Garg, Devi’s husband.
