Moorti’s son, Manish, had become a father on Wednesday evening. The sexagenarian set out towards the hospital in a new Honda Amaze driven by her granddaughter, Tripti Garg (19), who was supposed to go to her engineering college in Gurgaon after meeting the newest member of the family.

Tripti is also battling for life at a private hospital. The joint family lives in Sooraj Nagar of Azadpur.

She would often go out with her friends, but had never driven long distance,” said her uncle, Vikas Garg.

“Barely half an hour after they left home, we got a call from the police informing us about the incident. We came to know the severity of the condition after we reached the hospital,” said Jai Prakash Garg, Devi’s husband.
