It will get hotter. Here’s why: IMD predicts more heat-wave days in April-June
IMD director general Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said above-normal heat wave days were likely over most parts in plains during April-June. Ten to 20 days of heat wave were expected in different parts of the country against a normal of four to eight days, he added.
Gujarat, central Maharashtra, north Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, north Chhattisgarh and Andhra may face worst impact of heat waves.
As far as April is concerned, “above normal” maximum temperatures were likely over most parts of the country, with a high probability of it over central south India. Above normal heat wave days were likely over many areas in central India and the adjoining areas of the northern plains and south India in April, IMD said.
Rainfall during April is most likely to be normal. “Normal to above-normal rainfall is likely over most parts of northwest India and many parts of central India, north peninsular India, some parts of east and northeast India. Below normal rainfall is likely along east and west coasts, some parts of east and northeast India and westcentral India,” Met department said.
Temperature may be above normal, heat wave conditions expected in April and May: IMD
India Meteorological Department forecasts above-normal temperatures and heat wave conditions for April and May, with heavy rainfall predicted by Dr. Naresh Kumar in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh due to an active Western disturbance.
