Expect rain on Monday and Tuesday
New Delhi: The city saw a spike in the maximum temperature on Sunday. The weather department expects a further rise on Monday with a quick respite.
The maximum temperature on Sunday, at the base station Safdarjung, was recorded at 37.9 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal against 36.9 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The minimum temperature was recorded at 26.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal against 23.8 degrees Celsius a day earlier.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects the temperature to hover around 37-39 degrees Celsius on Monday, which will settle to 35-37 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. A yellow alert has been issued for the next two days, expecting light rain and gusty winds.
“The north-south trough from north Pakistan and adjoining Punjab to Marathwada across upper air cyclonic circulation over southeast Rajasthan and neighbourhood, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra at 0.9 km above mean sea level persists. Gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees during the next two days, fall by 2-3 degrees during the subsequent two days and rise by 3-5 degrees thereafter. Gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3 degrees during the next three days and no large change thereafter,” IMD stated.
Meanwhile, the air quality was recorded as moderate with an air quality index of 127 against 116 a day earlier.
