NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will deliver its verdict on Friday on the pleas filed by Delhi chief minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal seeking bail and quashing of arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the alleged excise policy scam.
Last Thursday, the Supreme Court had reserved its decision on Arvind Kejriwal's bail pleas and his challenge to his arrest by the CBI.
A bench comprising justice Surya Kant and justice Ujjal Bhuyan concluded the hearing after arguments presented by additional solicitor general SV Raju, representing the CBI, and senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal.
The court stated, "Judgment reserved," marking the end of the proceedings.
Kejriwal had filed two petitions: one contesting the denial of bail and the other challenging his arrest by the CBI in a corruption case. The AAP leader was arrested by the CBI on June 26.
On August 5, the Delhi high court had upheld his arrest, ruling that it was legal and conducted without malice. The court further noted that the CBI demonstrated how Kejriwal could potentially influence witnesses, who only came forward after his arrest.
The case stems from an investigation into alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy, which was scrapped in 2022 following a directive from the lieutenant governor for a CBI probe.
Both the CBI and ED have alleged that the policy was amended to grant undue benefits to license holders.
