Delhi: EDMC ties up with NTPC for waste plant

NEW DELHI:

East Delhi Municipal Corporation

(

EDMC

) signed an MoU with the National Thermal Power Corporation (

NTPC

) on Thursday to establish the first state-of-the-art integrated waste management plant in the city.


The civic agency plans to make the plant operational in the next two years, and the work for which will start as soon as

finalises the process of transferring 50 acres land in east Delhi.

“The integrated plant will have the capacity to consume 2,000 tonne of municipal solid and C&D waste daily. It will use combustible waste for generating

electricity

, biodegradable ones for making manure and construction and demolition waste for making tiles and other recycled product,” said EDMC commissioner Dilraj Kaur. This is for the first time NTPC will be using solid waste instead of coal to generate electricity, she added.

About the project, general manager, NTPC, Amit Kulshreshtha, said the plant will be of global standards and have the ability to use mixed litter. “It will be odourless and cause no inconvenience to the locals.”
