East Delhi gambling ring busted, 3 held
NEW DELHI: Three people running an online roulette racket for the past few months from a residential building in Shahdara were arrested on Thursday. The racket was being run via WhatsApp and payments were made through e-wallets. A mobile phone, a computer and Rs 4,000 in betting money was seized from them.
The accused — Karandeep Singh, who is the mastermind, Harjeet Singh and Monu — hit upon the idea after losing their jobs.

“They used WhatsApp for sharing passwords with their customers to gamble online, declare betting amounts and other conversations. Only those people who had a reference from the peer group on the mo-bile app were added to the group to gamble,” said DCP (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad.
“A dozen people were found gambling online from their homes when we raided the place in Shahdara,” said a police officer.
Customers were charged Rs 100 as entry fee for the online casino. “Once the entry fee was paid, the customer would get a password for playing the online game on his mobile phone or computer,” the officer added.
In another operation, 11 people were caught gambling in a guesthouse in Shrestha Vihar in east Delhi on Thursday. A total of Rs 4.97 lakh betting money and 156 playing cards were seized from the guesthouse, police said.
