Last week, Nandini Sen, an associate professor of
Bharati College
, posted a status on Facebook which went viral in no time. Reason? The college’s professors and principal pooled in money to help the daughter of a vegetable seller get
admission in the college.
Mukti Sanyal, the principal of the college, tells us, “A girl along with her mother, came to our college to get admission in
Journalism
(Hons) last week. She had met all the criteria but since the cost of the course was too much for them, her mother said that her daughter would not be able to take admission in the college. The teacher handling the admissions desk went up to Nandini Sen and asked what should be done. They decided to walk up to me with this case and within half-an-hour, all of us pooled in money and the girl got admission.”

Nandini says that she was surprised by the response she received on social media. “People are interested in knowing good stories and this is one of the those. All of us quickly pooled in the money and the admission process was completed with the help of a young colleague who made the online payment,” she says.
This isn’t the first time the college has helped a student in need. “Whenever a student needed money to take admission, our former principal Promodini Verma would ask teachers and staff members to pool in. Later, the college formed a
Fee
Waiver committee to help those who can’t pay their fees,” the principal adds.
