Delhi University admission panel to meet on DUSU president Ankiv Baisoya

NEW DELHI: Delhi University has called for a meeting of the admission committee on Monday to decide on the allegation that fake marksheets had been submitted by the DUSU president, Ankiv Baisoya. This was revealed by the head of department of Buddhist Studies, KTS Saro. After two days of silence, the administration has finally taken cognizance of the matter after receiving complaints from rival student groups.
The Chattra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (offshoot of AAP) joined the chorus against Baisoya and submitted a memorandum to the dean of student welfare (DSW) on Thursday, two days after the issue was raised by NSUI. The allegation relates to Baisoya furnishing undergraduate marksheets of Thiruvalluvar University to gain admission in MA Buddhist Studies. During this period — 2013-2016 — he also figured on the records of Delhi University’s College of Vocational Studies.

While Baisoya has insisted that he did complete his graduate degree in BA (pass) from Thiruvalluvar University, the university itself has declared that the marksheets submitted are fake. However, his party, ABVP, has claimed that he has only attended classes at CVS and withdrew before the end of the final year at the college as a result of which, he was not awarded a qualifying degree by DU.
The DSW had told Baisoya earlier this year that his record won’t pose a problem but UGC guidelines differ. According to a notification in December 2012, no student would be allowed to “pursue” two regular degrees at the same time. “A student enrolled in a degree programme under regular mode may be allowed to pursue a maximum of one additional degree programme simultaneously under open/distance mode from the same or a different university. However, two degree programmes under regular mode may not be allowed simultaneously as it may create logistic, administrative and academic problems,” the notification states. This was reinforced by a notice as late as January 15, 2016.
